EASAV President's Message |
|
I joined EASAV when I moved to Edmonton, the 2nd year after I graduated. Four months after joining EASAV I was asked by my classmate Tara to take over her position as CE director because she was moving to the USA and going back to school. We only had to “do 2 big talks and a couple of small ones per year”. I agreed. It was a much different time. I had to fax out all of our notices, entering each clinic fax number by hand. I ordered all the food at NAIT, phoned speakers, and phoned vets at clinics when we needed to make sure everyone knew what talk we had coming up and get more people to come. Much has changed since then.
We have EASAV’s wonderful Executive Assistant, Smokey Walters and her assistant Jackie Sehlin, to do all this and so much more. We have a website that is continually improving to do our CE notifications and registrations through, and, through cooperation with the Calgary Academy, we can get the membership rate on Continuing Education that they have as well! We have a cross Canada Peer support group, the Teddy Bear Hospital at the Edmonton Valley Zoo (June 2, 2023) to help support sick children in our community, and fantastic wetlabs for hands-on learning! EASAV’s mandate includes:
1) Encouraging the study, application and advancement of veterinary education and making relevant information available to the EASAV community. AND
2) Building a strong veterinary community by fostering a spirit of collaboration between veterinarians in our area.
To this end we decided to “boldly go” where EASAV had never gone before and are having our first EASAV conference and trade show here in Edmonton, May 27 and 28, 2023. With world renowned speakers and a fantastic venue for learning at NAIT I encourage all local veterinarians and technologists to support our efforts and join EASAV and participate in our conference. Please feel free to promote our conference to classmates and colleagues!
