Pet Body Donation Program: Pet Owners
Pet Body Donation Program: Pet Owners
Losing a pet is by far, the worst and most painful part of pet ownership. Despite how hard we try, we just can't make our pets live as long as we do. If you have suffered a recent loss, we hope that your pet helped fill your home with love and joy during their short time with you and that the good memories you have of them while they were with you endure once the grief of losing them has eased.
Did you know that your pet can also help your local veterinary community and other pet owners, after they have passed on?
The Edmonton Association of Small Animal Veterinarians (EASAV) is a local veterinary association whose mandate is to provide and promote continuing education for local veterinarians and registered veterinary technologists. One of the ways that we enhance the practice of veterinary medicine in our community is by organizing hands on wet-labs using dead animals which we source from pet owners.
To ensure these precious donations are put to good use, if we have more than we need, we share them with other wet-lab providers, the 4 Animal Health colleges in Alberta and the University of Calgary's Veterinary Medicine Program. This helps to give our upcoming veterinary professionals the skills they need to provide the best care they can upon graduation from their respective veterinary programs.
