Speaker Biographies:
Dr. Kinga Gortel is a veterinary dermatologist who has worked as a clinician, instructor, and lecturer in Western Canada and California since becoming board certified by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 1999. She currently practices dermatology in the Okanagan Valley and is a long-standing member of the CAVD.
Dr. Joe Rubin is a microbiologist specializing in antimicrobial resistance, molecular epidemiology & bacterial zoonoses originating from companion animals. After graduating from the WCVM in 2007, he studied methicillin resistant Staphylococci in dogs & people. Since completing his PhD, Dr. Rubin has focused his studies on emerging novel Brachyspira spp. broad-spectrum beta-lactamases in Gram-negative bacteria & community-acquired C. difficile infections. He is an Associate Professor & Graduate Chair in the Department of Veterinary Microbiology at the University of Saskatchewan.
