presents a 3-part webinar & hands-on CE course for DVMs & RVTs...

Point of Care Ultrasound in everyday practice: introduction to all things POCUS, with a focus on abdominal, pleural space, lung, and cardiovascular POCUS

with Sören Boysen, DVM, DACVECC & Serge Chalhoub, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM)

Lecture description: Using an interactive case-based approach, your instructors will present & discuss veterinary point of care ultrasound (VetPOCUS) that can be used by general practitioners on a daily basis in general practice.
Part 1: Evolution of FAST to POCUS and introduction of the 5-point abdominal        POCUS exam for everyday practice.
Part 2: How to interpret and perform pleural space and lung ultrasound (PLUS): Diagnosing pneumothorax, pleural effusion & Lung pathology.
Part 3: Cardiovascular ultrasound made easy!

Lab description: POCUS allows non-specialist practitioners to rapidly assess their patients for conditions without compromising patient safety. In this lab, core POCUS ultrasound-scanning techniques will be covered. Participants will learn how they can use POCUS in everyday practice in multiple situations: from trauma to triage of all patients; to gathering more information about their patient; to serially following the effects of therapy.

Through practical, hands-on training on live animals & cadavers, participants will have the opportunity to practice POCUS skills which they can take directly to the clinic setting. POCUS instruction will centre on the abdomen (abdominal effusion, generalized ileus, bladder volume, renal pelvic dilation, gallbladder halo sign), pleural space, lung (alveolar interstitial disease, pleural space disease) and cardiovascular system (enlarged left atrium, pericardial effusion and volume status).  No prior U/S experience is needed.
