Judit Smits, DVM MSc, PhD, Professor Emerita, Ecosystem & Public Health at UCVM Wildlife as sentinels of ecosystem health Biography: Dr. Smits' research focuses on investigating impacts of anthropogenic contamination & environmental degradation, to inform protective environmental policies. She also investigates naturally exposes wildlife in combination with experimental studies to determine sensitive biomarkers (health effects) of air & water-borne contaminants in wild animals. Her educational activities entail teaching vets & vet students how their practice can enhance conservation and protect ecosystem health with responsible management of domestic animals and livestock. Her research also includes work to relieve chronic arsenic poisoning in human populations.
