  President's Message

Dear Veterinarians, I warmly welcome you all, my professional colleagues, and extend my thanks for the support of our members. I strongly encourage those of you who are not currently EASAV members to consider becoming one today!

Over the past two years, we have noticed that the EASAV membership has not increased, yet the number of vets in our city has. The EASAV directors are passionate about continuing education and strive to create opportunities that foster unity among veterinarians. The power of unity and the feeling of togetherness is the biggest need of any living being. To honor this, the EASAV Executive Team is now offering a free membership for the remainder of this calendar year to any veterinarian in our city who has never been a member
before!

In keeping with the spirit of togetherness, we have created a new Collegiality Director position on our board, added a Badminton Tournament to our existing array of CE seminars, wet-labs and social events and are now searching for members to join a new committee to help manage the Dr. Milton Ness Memorial Teddy Bear Hospital!

A bond of togetherness in every moment of difficulty or joy can increase our confidence and improve our physical, mental and emotional strength.
I am very pleased to announce the new EASAV Member Peer Support Group coming in January of 2019. This support group will be run by EASAV members for EASAV members as we feel that veterinarians understand and can help veterinarians best. We are looking for members who are willing to help facilitate the support group and ask that you contact our Executive Assistant, Smokey, for more details.

I encourage all of you to stand together in our city and accept the power of unity. By being supportive of one another and united socially, emotionally, physically and financially, we will remain strong as a profession!

Yours truly,

Dr. Gurmeet Tuli, EASAV President

  Executive Assistant's Message

Happy Summer everyone! Please note that I am only available sporadically during the summer months. Your patience in waiting for my replies is appreciated.

CE Notes Update: Due to the rising cost of printing and larger power points that speakers are giving, the CE committee has decided to stop providing printed power point notes for all seminars. We will still send links to ppt files that are not too large before each seminar (which you can print yourself, if desired) and will still provide printed, written style notes, if they are provided by our speakers.  This decision was made to reduce waste, stay within our budget and keep CE costs the same; we appreciate your understanding and support of this change.

New Speaker for the Anesthesia Seminar: Please note that Dr. Matt Read will no longer be giving the "Make Anesthesia Great Again" Seminar this November. In his place will be Craig Mosley, DVM, MSc, DACVAA; seminar topics will be exactly the same!

CE Brochure changes: in 2019, EASAV will be reformatting the CE Brochure to a letter sized document and will no longer be mailing copies to members and clinics. Instead, the brochure will be available for download online and will be faxed to all clinics in Alberta. If you are not receiving our fax blasts, please send an updated fax number to Smokey by email so she can verify your information. We recommend that all CE attendees or office administrators sign up to use our website! If you have staff who have not yet signed up to use our website, please have them do so at their earliest convenience. Signing up is FREE!

EASAV Locum List: EASAV is building on our locum list and we are calling for all RVTs and other support staff who are interested in locuming! If you would like your name on our list (which is available to all EASAV members), please send it to Smokey along with your email address and phone number.

News from the Dr. Milton Ness Memorial Teddy Bear Hospital

Sewing Bee:
We are hoping to expand our Surgery Room by building more stuffed mock foreign body surgery dogs. If you have an interest in sewing and would like to help with this project, please let Smokey know as soon as possible.

Teddy Bear Hospital Committee: We would like to form a committee to help EASAV review, manage, plan and organize the Teddy Bear Hospital each year. Please contact Smokey if you are interested in joining this new committee!

Our Facebook Page needs your help!
EASAV now has a Facebook Page! We are looking for 1-2 EASAV members who are interested in helping upload photos, events and other relevant information to our page on an ongoing basis.
If you are an EASAV member, a social media guru and can help, please contact Smokey!

2018 AGM Highlights

The Microbiome was the hot CE topic for this year's Annual General Meeting, given by none other than CBC's own Science Columnist Dr. Torah Kachur!  All who attended this year's AGM enjoyed fabulous Irish food, the company of friends and colleagues and door prizes.

A huge thank you goes to Dr. Kelti Kachur, for booking us one of the best speakers we have ever had and to our outgoing EASAV directors: Dr. Nour Hashish and Dr. Shannon Wawryk. Shannon served 7 consecutive years on the Executive, has hosted every photo booth at Dreamnight since its inception and served with her husband to cook food for many of our annual BBQs! We will miss you at the meetings, Shannon.

EASAV's Inaugural Badminton Tournament

On June 16, EASAV members, their staff and guests gathered at the NAIT gym to participate in EASAV's first Badminton Round Robin Tournament! Much fun was had by all who participated, including the kids who were able to play in the NAIT pool during the tournament! The EASAV Executive team would like to thank everyone who came out to participate; we look forward to hosting another one next year.
A huge thank you goes to Calvin Wong, who volunteered to run our tournament!
