Practical Management of Anesthesia for Geriatric Patients with Co-existing Disease & Capnography - how to get started


Speaker:  Craig Mosley DVM, MSc, DACVAA



Seminar Abstract: The first 4 hours of this lecture will use case-based examples to highlight the principles of anesthetic management of geriatric patients with co-existing diseases.It will teach practical skills such as addressing client anesthetic concerns, modifying anesthetic protocols for renal and heart disease and managing hypotension and poor recoveries.  Dr. Mosley will also discuss why you may or may NOT want to incorporate CRIs and give rational approaches to managing aggressive patients. 

The last hour will focus on how to use capnography to help improve the overall quality of anesthesia through better asessment of patient ventilation and help participants leverage and interpret information from capnography monitoring.

About our speaker: Dr. Craig Mosley graduated from the OVC where he also completed his residency and MSc in veterinary anesthesia. He has been actively involved in mixed animal practice, emergency medicine, critial care, teaching, management and anesthesia throughout North America. Dr. Mosley is currently a staff anesthesiologist at VCA Canada 404 Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital in Newmarket, ON and an independent consultant in anesthesia for both direct and indirect clincal support and CE. Dr. Mosley has written several book chapters, peer reviewed articles and lectured extensively. His interests are diverse, ranging from wildlife and zoo animal anesthesia to  equipment, anesthestic monitoring and management of perioperative pain, chronic pain and palliative care.
