Pet Body Donation Program: Pet Owners

The Edmonton Association of Small Animal Veterinarians (EASAV) Pet Body Donation Program provides an opportunity for your pet's final gift to contribute to veterinary medical education and training. Through donation, your pet can help veterinary professionals develop skills and knowledge that ultimately improve the care provided to animals in the future.

Please note: At this time, the program can only accept dogs weighing 20 kg (44 lbs) or less.

Why Consider Donation?

Your pet's donation can make a meaningful contribution to veterinary medicine and education by helping to:

Improve surgical skills and techniques

Advance veterinary medical knowledge

Enhance continuing education programs

Improve treatment options for future pets

Support hands-on learning opportunities for veterinary professionals

Through donation, your pet's legacy can continue to benefit future pets and the veterinary professionals who care for them.

How the Program Works

1. Consent

The owner completes a donation consent form after discussing the program with their veterinarian and confirming that their pet meets eligibility requirements.

2. Transportation

Arrangements are made for your pet to be respectfully transferred to the program.

3. Educational Use

Your pet will contribute to veterinary education and training programs that help improve animal care and advance veterinary medicine.

4. Final Aftercare

Following completion of the program, your pet will receive communal cremation at no cost to the owner. Individual ashes are not returned.

Is Donation Right for My Pet?

Choosing what happens after a beloved pet passes away is a deeply personal decision.

Donation may be right for you if:

You would like your pet's life to continue helping others.

You support veterinary education and training.

You are comfortable with your pet contributing to hands-on learning opportunities for veterinary professionals.

You appreciate a no-cost aftercare option that includes communal cremation.

You would like your pet's legacy to benefit future pets and the people who care for them.

Donation may not be the right choice if you prefer private cremation or burial.

Every family deserves to make the decision that feels right for them.
