Morning Wetlab 8am - 12pm
Elevate your gastrointestinal surgical skills in this immersive, hands-on canine wet lab led by renowned veterinary surgeon Dr. Charles Bruce. Working in teams of one DVM and one RVT, participants will learn and practice essential surgical techniques together, strengthening collaboration while improving patient care.

Participants will perform and refine the following essential gastrointestinal surgical procedures:
- Resection & Anastomosis
- Gastropexy
- Splenectomy
- Enterotomy
- Liver Biopsy

Lab Session
Morning Lab 1: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Participants will register for either the morning or afternoon session.
Prerequisite
A 1-hour online prerequisite video is required before attending the wet lab.
The prerequisite video is pending ABVMA and CVBC approval for 1 hour of CPD credit.
The hands-on wet lab is pending ABVMA and CVBC approval for 4 hours of CPD credit.
Refreshments
Snacks will be provided during the lab.

Registration Fees
EASAV Members: $850
Non-Members: $1000
Registration Information
Registration is completed by the participating DVM. Each registration includes one DVM and one RVT attending together as a team.
RVTs do not register separately. The participating RVT will attend the wet lab alongside their registered DVM partner and is eligible to earn the applicable CPD credits.
If a DVM does not have an RVT partner, they are still encouraged to register. EASAV will make every effort to match registered DVMs with an RVT participant whenever possible.

This unique wet lab is designed for teams consisting of one veterinarian (DVM) and one Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT). By learning together, veterinary teams can strengthen communication, refine surgical workflow, and immediately apply new techniques in practice to enhance patient care.

Prerequisite: RECOVER CPR: BLS & ALS Certifications
You must register, pay for & complete the following two online courses on your own, prior to attending the lab.
You MUST e-mail your completion certificates to info@easav.ca before the event.
The BLS and ALS courses are RACE approved for 3 hours of CPD credit each.
The lab portion is RACE approved for 6 hours of CPD credit.
Individuals that have completed the online Basic and/or Advanced Life Support RECOVER courses have the option of obtaining certification as RECOVER Certified Rescuers in Basic and Advanced Life Support.
Rescuer Certification Workshops are conducted by Certified Instructors at conferences and regional events. Basic (BLS) and Advanced (ALS) workshops will be held on the same day to allow individuals to become BLS & ALS certified.
Rescuer Certification Workshop in Basic Life Support (BLS)
The in-person RECOVER Certification workshop in BLS is a hands-on workshop held by a RECOVER Certified BLS Instructor® composed of a review of key concepts and practical training using simulated scenarios of performing BLS. The training is approximately 1.5-2 hours long with a practical assessment the participants must pass in order to obtain certification as a RECOVER Certified BLS Rescuer®.
Learning Objectives
1. Rapidly recognize patients with cardiopulmonary arrest
2. Properly administer high-quality chest compressions using the most up-to-date approaches in dogs and cats
3. Provide mouth-to-snout or intubated ventilation according to current evidence-based guidelines
4. Utilize effective communication and team skills that will improve your ability to manage emergent and critically ill patients
Rescuer Certification Workshop in Advanced Life Support (ALS)
The in-person RECOVER Certification workshop in ALS is a hands-on workshop held by a RECOVER Certified ALS Instructor® composed of a review of key concepts and practical training using simulated scenarios of performing ALS. The simulation is conducted with veterinary specific simulation software coupled with a high fidelity simulator or static mannequin. The training is approximately 4-5 hours long with a practical assessment the participants must pass in order to obtain certification as a RECOVER Certified ALS Rescuer®.
Learning Objectives
1. Utilize effective communication and team skills that will improve your ability to manage emergent and critically ill patients
2. Choose the most useful monitoring devices for patients in cardiopulmonary arrest and interpret data from them
3. Rapidly diagnose the arrest ECG rhythm to determine the best ALS therapies for the patient
4. Administer the most effective drugs and other adjunctive therapies for patients with cardiopulmonary arrest
